Prompts for Exciting Writing!

The hardest part about writing is coming up with an idea and getting started, so here are some writing prompts that will make writing more exciting! These are good for older students in school and also for people who are learning a second (third, or fourth) language. I'll keep adding new prompts as I think of them, so check back to see the lists grow!

Regular Prompts:

• Make an itinerary for a tourist who is visiting your hometown. What should they do and see? Where should they eat?

• Write down a step-by-step recipe for how to cook your very favorite food.

• If you could have dual citizenship in any other country, which country would you choose?

• Are you superstitious? Is there anything you do to avoid getting "jinxed"?

• Do you believe in ghosts? If you do, have you seen one before? If you don't, why not?

• If you were going to throw a party for your friends next week, what would the theme be? What kind of party would you have?

• What is the most recent dream that you've had?

• What are you favorite activities to do in the fall?

• What chores do you absolutely hate to do the most?

• How do you usually start your day? Is there a morning ritual or schedule that you have?

• What was the most memorable field trip you went on when you were a child?

• If you could wear whatever you wanted to work/school with no repercussions, what would you wear?

• Do you like to shop at thrift stores or second-hand stores? Why or why not?

• Is there anything that you keep around you for luck?

• Who was your best friend as a child? Are you still in touch?

• What are the top 3 qualities that you can't stand in people?

• What are the top used apps on your phone? Why do you use them so often?

• What is your zodiac sign, and what do you think it says about you?

• What is the best way to travel: Plane, car, or boat?

• If you are going to karaoke or singing in the shower, what are your go to songs? Why?

• What is your go to pair of shoes, what do you like so much about them?

• What is the best way to stop the hiccups?

• If you had to set up a blog, what would you blog about?

• Is it easy for you to get along with new people, or is it difficult?

• What is the best class you took in school or college? What made it interesting and memorable?

• Has anything ever been stolen from you? What happened?

• Have you ever had a roommate? Describe your best and worst experience.

• Have you ever had to stage an intervention with someone you care about?

• Do you have any scars? If you do, how did you get them?

• What is your favorite thing to do at an amusement park or fair?

• Have you ever accidentally injured another person?

• Have you ever uploaded a video to Youtube? What was it about?

• Have you ever gotten into a physical fight with someone? What happened?

• Have you ever faked being sick to get out of work/school? If so, how did you do it?

• Have you ever made a gift for somebody else? If you did, what was it?

• Have you ever had a snowball fight, or built a snowman?

• Have you ever passed out or fainted? If you did, what happened?

• Create a new monster. What makes it terrifying? Where does it live? What does it do to people?

• Have you ever snuck into a place you weren't supposed to be before?
